Press Statement from the Ministry Of Health On The Suspected Outbreak of Typhoid Fever at Evelyn Hone College and Cholera Situation in Kapiri Mposhi District

The Ministry of Health wishes to inform the general public regarding the suspected outbreak of Typhoid Fever at Evelyn Hone College and Cholera situation in Kapiri Mposhi District. The first two suspected cholera cases in Kapiri Mposhi were recorded on 31st August 2014, at Waya Rural Health Centre in the Lukanga Swamps. On 7th November 2014, a total of forty one (41) cumulative cases had been reported. Laboratory tests have confirmed the existence of Cholera. There have been six community deaths and two institutional deaths. The Central Province Health Office and the Kapiri Mposhi District Community Health Office responded promptly to investigate the outbreak and provide technical and logistical support. Rapid Response Teams were mobilized at the Provincial and District levels.

The construction works at the University Teaching Hospital commonly known as UTH that began early this year have advanced. These consist of the new Adult Emergency Unit formerly known as ‘Filter clinic’, a two storey car park and the road network.
