GOVERNMENT has continued to recruit health workers on an unprecedented level, a move aimed at scaling up the provision of quality healthcare to citizens.
And according to Zambia National Health Strategic Plan 2017-2021 government through the Ministry of Health intends to employ 30 000 health workers.
This has already started seeing the light of day as many health workers such as doctors, nurses, and midwives among others have so far been absorbed into the system and have since received their postings and are now offering service to the people.
The increase in uptake of healthcare providers suggests government’s commitment to improving service delivery.
As the case is, these health practitioners undergo extensive training over a considerable period of time. The training does not only equip them with knowledge but are also taught on how to handle patients well with kid gloves.
However, in as much as many maintain their professional conduct in practice. It is alleged that some have thrown off the mantle to the wind. These few bad seeds perforate the good image of the health profession as patients are left to their tender mercies prompting concern.
That is why Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya is reminding health practitioners in the country to observe professionalism.
