Zambia launches Cholera Strategic Plan

Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya says the launch of the Strategic Plan to End Cholera by 2025 is a milestone in the health sector which will provide a road map to ending Cholera.
He emphasized government’s commitment to working with other partners in ending Cholera by 2025.
Dr. Chilufya said this in Lusaka at the launch of Validation of the Zambia multi-sectoral cholera elimination plan 2019 to 2025.
Zambia is playing an active role in contributing to the global cholera elimination agenda.The country sponsored a resolution at the 71st World Health Assembly in May 2018 to eliminate cholera globally by 2030.
Following adoption of the resolution by the World Health Assembly, Zambia set an ambitious national legacy goal to eliminate cholera in the country by 2025.
It is critical that a strategic plan is in place for the successful achievement of the cholera elimination goal.
Strong political will and leadership in Zambia has been demonstrated under His Excellency, Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu, President of The Republic of Zambia, by embracing the elimination strategy, with the highest level of commitment to its fulfilment.
Minister in the Office of the Vice President Silvia Chalikosa said the target to eliminate Cholera by 2025 is achievable and will help build a healthy Zambia.
Ms. Chalikosa said the Office of the vice President will help in coordination and resource mobilization.
Meanwhile Minister of Water Development Sanitation and Environmental Protection Dennis Wanchinga said his ministry will continue to supply clean water so that the country don’t experience the last season cholera outbreaks
