Kasama – 19th December, 2025
Government has commissioned a modern mortuary facility at Kasama General Hospital, constructed using funds from the 2024 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) under the Disaster Management component.

The facility, which cost K1,390,000, was co-financed by Kasama Central and Lukashya constituencies. The mortuary has a capacity to accommodate 25 bodies.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Northern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Ms. Beauty Undi-Phiri said the project reflects the significant development progress being recorded in Kasama District through the CDF programme.
Ms. Undi-Phiri further disclosed that with CDF allocations expected to rise to K40 million per constituency in 2026, communities stand to benefit from even faster development. She stressed that such progress must be anchored on accountability, transparency, and active community participation.
Meanwhile, Kasama General Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr. Shyamayanda Satchmo, said the newly commissioned mortuary marks a major improvement in the hospital’s infrastructure.
He explained that the facility has increased the hospital’s total mortuary capacity from 21 to 46 bodies.
Dr. Satchmo added that the mortuary will serve not only the people of Kasama District but also residents of Lukashya and neighboring areas, enhancing service delivery across the region.
