Government Calls for Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities

‎Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts Elvis Nkandu, says government has made various reforms that aim to promote social justice particularly for persons with disabilities.
‎Speaking in Lusaka where he officiated the Night to Shine event, Mr Nkandu said a number of current policies that have been formulated are centered on advancing social inclusion.
‎Mr Nkandu further noted that persons with disabilities face multiple challenges in the society which government seeks to address.
‎He said persons with disabilities can contribute significantly to the community.
‎The Minister has thanked cooperating partners such as Beit Cure Children’s Hospital of Zambia for supplementing government’s efforts.
‎And Beit Cure Children’s Hospital Country Executive Director Fridah Phiri has commended government for its continued fiscal support through grants.
‎Mrs Phiri said since its inception the hospital has done much to assist children with disabilities and that it has recorded remarkable progress.
‎Meanwhile, Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD) Director General Frank Musukwa says the constitution of Zamblia has embedded social inclusion as a critical component to drive national development.
‎Dr Musukwa , who spoke through a sign language interpreter said most of the laws in the current amended constitution, targets to address existing barriers for persons with disabilities.
‎The Night to Shine red carpet ceremony whose goal was to inspire hope and celebrate the lives of children with disabilities was preceded by the crowning and presentation of gifts to the young people under the auspices of Christian Blind Mission (CBM), a faith based organization.
